Geophysical Software Tester - Junior

Location: Kuala Lumpur - KLCC

Job Summary:

As DUG grows, we need to expand our professional testing organisation to support the developers building complex geophysical software.

We're looking to hire software testers to execute, and eventually build, manual tests.  You must be a very experienced software user, and understand how software works; specific testing experience is highly desirable.  You'll work in a closely-knit team in a brand new KLCC-area office, directly adjacent to Ampang Park station.

For programmers, improvement requires quick feedback, positive and negative, on what they've just done.  The faster they get feedback, the faster the product will improve -- but of course we can't send every single change to our customers.  That's one of the reasons we hire testers.

A great tester gives programmers immediate feedback on what they did right and what they did wrong.  There's no better way to improve the productivity and happiness of the team as a whole than to have dedicated testers who get frequent releases, try them out, and give negative and positive feedback.

Unlike a lot of companies, we appreciate the value that QA plays in producing a great product.  Testers aren't punished for findings problems; they're rewarded!

Requirements:

  • intelligence and curiosity
  • a scientific approach to everything, and extreme attention to detail
  • strong problem solving / critical thinking skills
  • excellent written and spoken English
  • proficiency using typical Windows software
  • willingness to work in Kuala Lumpur (KLCC)
  • legal right to work in Malaysia

The following are desirable, but not absolutely required:

  • testing experience in a commercial or very serious non-commercial team
  • proficiency with a common scripting or programming language (C, Java, bash, perl, python, etc.)
  • Linux proficiency
